Tatum Edwards: Monologue - play prep (lesson 2)

This week:

We worked on:
1. Mapping out our character shifts
2. Character development

Mapping out our character shifts
Today we worked on taking Tatum to a whole new level with her acting and monologue! We separated our monologue into different sections - and mapped out how we were going to approach each section, what the emotion moving that section forward was - and how we were going to show that emotion differently than we showed the rest!

Our mapped out monologue went from:

Nervous, trying to think
Emotionally shown by: Sounding like we're questioning our words.
Physically shown by: Looking around, stuttering our words, talking fast, laughing when we make the metaphor come together

Desperate, upset, fed up
Emotionally shown by: upping the dramatic voice intonation on "I'M THAT BAGEL".. whining on "NOBODY NOTICES ME"
physically shown by: bending our knees, throwing our arms down, facial expressions

Desperate: trying to convince
Emotionally: Higher voice on "listen!!" .. pouty on "stupid barrymores"
Physically: big awkward actions trying to compensate for acting on the spot.. and throwing arm out in frustration and pouty

Angry to proud
Emotionally: Voice intonation change from one line to the next
physically: From rigid to big open and high arms

Sassy:
Emotionally: Sounding angry and defiant
physically: Arms up in aggressive/sassy "what" pose

Character development
We also talked about and worked on our character development - making sure that every action, voice intonation, and line - helped further explain, clarify, describe, or move our character forward. We worked on giving every action and shift a purpose so that our monologue wasn't just full of big actions and loud words - but that it was full of GREAT acting and very deliberate actions and reactions that helped show that we could fill a stage and play a full character.

Here are our videos from today!

Before/End of our lesson:
