Musical Theater Belt Today we worked on our Musical Theater Belt!!! With this type of song (Anything Goes) - we want the biggest sound possible in our high notes to contrast the quick low notes so that the song sounds vocally produced or "on purpose" because it has so many different elements and shows Erin's awesome control of her vocal cords. We are working on getting this big giant bright sound - while simultaneously making sure that Erin doesn't add unnecessary unhealthy pressure to her vocal cords. The way that we do this, is by widening the vowel and going to our "big Italian woman" placement - that we used in "don't rain on my parade". This is where we take all parts of our word and work our jaw and tongue over time - making it feel like we're talking out the sides of our mouth with a big rectangle mouth placement. This gives our song a big sound, projects the sound forward even more, and gives it more of a true musical theater sound (or like it's on broadway!!) Wow. Erin did SO GREAT!!!
